Welcome to the Alpine Level I Certification online course.

We are glad that you have decided to pursue membership and certification with the Professional Ski Instructors of America & American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI).

The following course is designed to be completed prior to attending the on-snow portion of the Alpine Level I Exam. This self-paced course will introduce you to the numerous concepts and ideas that are the foundation of being a professional ski instructor.

The course is broken into three Modules:

  1. Skills Concept,
  2. Movement Analysis
  3. Teaching.

Each module is divided into several sections, and there are multiple concepts within each section to help you understand the details and how all of the pieces fit together to work as an instructor.

The Skills Concept Module will introduce you to how PSIA-AASI thinks about skiing. The Movement Analysis Module applies the ideas from the Skills Concept to analyze beginner and novice skiers. Last, the Teaching Module provides information on teaching and learning.

For optimal success at the Level I on-snow exam, take your time with the course so you can learn to recognize and understand the different aspects of alpine instruction.  Remember to review ideas with your home resort trainers, and supplement your training by referring to the PSIA Alpine Technical Manual and the PSIA Core Concepts Manual.

We hope you enjoy the course!
